Okay so I don't normally post pictures of my amateurish builds but to help promote the new SMAS site I'll make this one exception. Besides these pictures make it look much better than it actually is. This is a model of a Bombardier CL-415 water bomber built from a Sarik Hobbies short kit. It has a 72" wingspan with twin Sunny Sky motors running on 4S power. It has counter rotating props and differential thrust. Somehow she ended up a little heavier than expected with an AUW of 6 lbs. I'll be flying it off grass so I'm hoping the smallish twin motors will produce enough thrust to get this bloated boat up to rotating speed. My strategy for this build wasn't any different than any of my other builds - glue a bunch of balsa together and sand the crap out of it until it looks something like the one in the picture that came with the kit. But this build took me much longer than any of my previous builds with a lot of firsts for me. As a result it might just be a hangar queen for a while until I can get up enough courage to maiden it. If it turns out that it's a dud and it just looks like a plane and not one that will fly I think it'll look good hanging from the ceiling above our bed...I just have to convince my wife of that. Chris - it looks incredible! 72" wing span? Wow... now that will be something in the air!
It kind of reminds me of my Catalina PBY with the two props high and close to center on the wing. In that, I had set-up counter rotating props with one from the THROTTLE output and the other mixed from the AUX output. Problem was a failsafe position when one motor took off... literally across my kitchen table and hit the stove... tearing apart the foam and luckily pulling away from the ESC. Kind of wish that I had added an external battery plug to keep hands away from any danger. Now that was a long time ago... I still have the PBY. Maybe we should try them in the air together!
Can't wait to see it in action!

It looks great from where I sit. Congrats. I hope to see it once I get my health back in some kind of order. Cheers
